SARAH PERLEY (d. 1693), daughter of Samuel Perley and Ruth Trumble


Joseph, the son of Robert Andrews, was born on 18 September 1657 in Topsfield. [1] He died on 28 July 1732, age 74, in Salem. [2] He married first Sarah Perley on 1 February 1681 in Topsfield. [1] Joseph of Boxford married [second] Mary Dickenson of Rowley on 30 March 1696 in Rowley. [3] Mary, the daughter of James Dickenson, was born on 14 November 1675 in Rowley. [3] Mary, the wife of Joseph died on 25 February 1700/1 in Boxford. [5, there is a question mark by the year] Joseph of Topsfield married [third] Mrs. Abigail (Grafton) Walker on 2 November 1704 in Salem. [6, "Walk"][6] Abigail, the daughter of John and Seeth[!] Grafton, was born on 12 August 1667 in Salem. [7]

Sarah Perley was born on 7 June 1665 in Ipswich. [8] Sarah, the wife of Joseph, died on 15 January 1693 in Boxford. [4]

Joseph was the ancestor of John Albion Andrews, Governor of Massachusetts during the Civil War. [9]

John was unmarried when his father made his will; he was to have land in Topsfield bought from John Wilde's son. [10]

Joseph was a house carpenter. [6][11] He was a surveyor of highways in Boxford in 1687. He was a selectman in 1689, 1697, 1700 and 1704. He was a constable in 1692. He was appointed to a committee to finish the meeting house on 3 February 1698/9. [12]

Joseph was among those who opposed the witchcraft delusion. He signed the petition supporting John Proctor and his wife. [11]

Joseph signed his will on 13 April 1731; it was proved on 4 September 1732. [6] He mentioned his wife Abigail; sons Joseph, John, Nathaniel and Jonathan; daughters Sarah, wife of Paul Averill, Hephzibah, wife of Abraham How, Lydia Webster and Mary Creecy; his daughter-in-law Abigail Osgood. [11] He left his homestead to his sons Nathaniel and Jonathan. [6]

Children of Joseph Andrews and Sarah Perley:

i. Sarah Andrews was born on 20 August 1683 in Topsfield. [1] She married Paul Averell on 27 March 1706 in Topsfield. [1] Paul, the son of William and Hannah Averell, was born on 21 June 1677 in Topsfield. [13]

ii. Joseph Andrews was born on 13 March 1686 in Boxford. [14] He died on 22 April 1756 in Topsfield. [15] He married Hephzibah Porter on 7 June 1711 in Salem. [5] Hephzibah, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Porter, was born on 11: 2m: 1678 in Salem. [21] Hephzibah, the wife of Joseph, died on 12 April 1756 in Topsfield. [15]

iii. John Andrews is probably the son born 13 September 1687/8 in Boxford. married Patience Andrews.

iv. Hephzibah Andrews was baptized on 5 July 1691 in Topsfield. [1] Hephzibah, the wife of Lieutenant Abraham How died on 13 April 1753, age 62, in Ipswich. [16] She married Abraham How after 31 January 1712 (intention) in Ipswich. [17] Abraham, the son of Abraham and Sarah (Peabody) How, was born on 27 June 1686 in Ipswich. [17][18] Lieutenant Abraham How died on 6 March 1770, age 84, in Ipswich. [16]

Children of Joseph Andrews and Mary Dickenson:

v. Lydia Andrews was born on 3 September 1697 in Boxford. [14] She was baptized on 5 September 1697 in Topsfield. [1] She married William Webster on 24 May 1722. [6]

vi. Mary Andrews was born on 19 April 1699 in Boxford. [14] She married Samuel Creasie on 7 October 1725 in Rowley. [19] Samuel might be the son of William and Ann Creasy, born on 23 July 1704 in Rowley. [20]

Children of Joseph Andrews and Abigail Grafton:

v. Nathaniel Andrews was baptized on 23 September 1705 in Topsfield. [1] He died on 4 February 1762, age 56, in Salem. [2] He married Mary Higgenson on 19 September 1729 in Salem. [5] Mary, the daughter of Nathaniel and Hannah (Garrish) Higgenson, was born on 14 October 1708 in Salem. [22] Mary, the wife of Nathaniel, died on 3 October 1747, age 38, in Salem. [2]

vi. Jonathan Andrews was a mariner and lived in Salem. [6] He signed his will on 8 Nov 1734, when he was about to go on a voyage; it was proved on 8 Jul 1737. [6] He must have been the son who married Abigail Osgood.
